Best Back Brace For Good Posture

If you are looking for a great back brace to help improve your posture (posture brace), then you are in the right place!

Nowadays, more and more health-conscious consumers are aware of the problems associated with poor posture: like forward head posture or “text neck”, rounded shoulders and an anterior pelvic tilt.

Besides being unsightly, weak posture can cause an uncomfortable tightness in your muscles and in bad cases even pain.

For those with “desk jockey” jobs, regular back exercises may not be enough to correct such posture issues and this is where a back brace might come in handy to help you train and relieve those achy back muscles.

Flexguard Support Back Brace Posture Corrector

Flexguard is an established brand and this back brace is among the best on the market at an affordable price.

The brace reinforces the muscles of both the upper and lower back. The cushioned straps pull the shoulders back, and the waistband supports the lumbar region. It is bulkier than the simple “figure-8” brace design that is quite popular.

The brace is made of Neoprene but because of its bulkier design, it may be difficult to wear under clothing. However, what it lacks in fashion, it makes up for in performance as you can even wear it for support when working out.

In fact, the brace comes with a booklet of exercises to improve posture. Its solid construction prevents it from riding up with wear making it ideal for those who need lower back support with more active lifestyles.

The Flexguard comes in several different sizes, with everything from XS (20 to 24-inch waist) to XL (34 to 40-inch waist) available. In addition, each individual model has adjustable straps making it easy to find the most comfortable fit for you.

This is a great affordable option for consumers who want both clavicle and lumbar support and would rather not purchase two separate products.

Posture Corrector for Men & Women by Comcl (“Truweo”)

Posture Corrector for Men & Women by Comcl sold by Truweo is a back brace (posture corrector) that gently pulls back the shoulders and straightens the spine. This unisex upper back support brace features the “figure-8” design that is worn like a backpack.

The “figure-8” has proven popular among consumers because of its comparatively small size. Unlike bulkier braces, this one can easily be packed for travel and worn under clothing.

While it may not be the most inconspicuous product available, the brace is relatively comfortable and made from Neoprene fabric. Neoprene is a lightweight and breathable material which does not irritate the skin.

Other additional convenient features are that the brace is both washable and adjustable. Despite being labeled “universal size”, the charts indicate that it fits chests ranging from 28 to 48 inches in circumference.

The product has been praised by many customers for its comfortability and effectiveness. It is said to be designed in the US but it is in manufactured in China.

With so much time spent focusing on things in front of us at a downwards angle, it is no wonder our posture suffers.

Comcl Back Posture Corrector for Women & Men (“Andego”)

The Andego brace has several similar characteristics to the to the one just above in that it is a “figure-8” clavicle brace and also made of Neoprene, latex-free fabric.

However, the Andego is more popular with female consumers. This is perhaps because the design is slightly smaller and thinner which enables it to be more easily concealed under clothing. Both braces are made by the same company Comcl.

This brace is appropriate for those who want posture support at the office without attracting unwanted attention. The Andego is designed with comfort and all day wearability in mind.

The product comes with 2 detachable armpit pads which prevent the straps from irritating and digging into the skin. It is also easily adjustable without assistance using the shoulder straps which are very similar to those found on backpacks.

It is a “one size fits most” product and suitable for chest circumferences between 25 and 50 inches.

This particular brace design is not recommended for lower back support. However, if you are looking for a discreet and comfortable brace to discourage rounding your shoulders, the Andego will fulfill your needs.

Mueller Lumbar Support Back Brace with Removable Pad

For consumers who want to focus on lower back support, the Mueller back brace is a great choice. Specifically used for sprains, strains and muscle spasms, the Mueller brace has a more traditional design and is simply wrapped around the waist.

This brace is suitable for those who do heavy lifting regularly and want to ensure correct alignment to prevent pain or injury. The Mueller is designed with internal molded plastic components which eliminate rolling or bunching with movement.

Using a combination of springs and a lumber pad, the brace gently yet securely reinforces the spine. Moreover, the double layer design allows for a more comfortable fit.

Although the Mueller claims to be adjustable, this particular model is not “one size fits most”. The brace with a lumbar pad only comes in 2 sizes,–Regular, which is 28 to 50 inches and Plus Size, which is 50 to 70 inches.

The Mueller Lumbar Support brace is great for both active work and when you sit at a desk, but it will not directly address rounded shoulders or forward head posture like other braces.

This lumbar support brace has a very impressive amount of positive feedback and comes at a price that is a fraction of other similar products.

BraceAbility Plus Size Bariatric Back Brace

For big and tall consumers, the BraceAbility Plus Size Brace functions both as a waist trimmer and lumbosacral wrap for lumbar spine stability.

While most braces only range up to about 70 inches, the BraceAbility goes up to size 6XL which fits hip circumferences of 74 to 80 inches.

Like the Mueller, the BraceAbility primarily provides lower back support. Its features include double-pull tension straps for extra compression and removable aluminum stays, which can bend to conform to different body shapes and reinforce the lower back muscles.

The material is latex-free, medical-grade elastic. It also has a comfortable, premium-padded back panel which provides a light compression for added stability.

Unlike the Mueller, the Braceability brace is not designed for strenuous activity and can ride up or bunch with wear. Instead, it caters to full-figured and big consumers who suffer from weight-related back pain.

The BraceAbility back brace is worn around the waist and is easily put on and removed as it uses medical grade velcro for fastening. It can be worn over or under clothing and is slightly more discreet than the Mueller.

The Best Back Brace For You

For total support of the spine, namely the clavicle and lumbar regions, the best pick would be the Flexguard Support brace. It is a great product and at a very budget-friendly price.

If you are interested in a more discreet upper-body brace, both the Truweo or or Andego would be a great choice. However, for an even more discreet option, you might want to check out another kind of product: posture correcting shirts.

It should be mentioned that if you are suffering from more than just “light” back or neck pain, I would suggest you consult with a medical professional before you use any of these products. Perhaps after examining your body, the professional might be able to give you the best advice on which kind of product to choose.

Back Brace / Posture Brace FAQ

There are many questions surrounding the use of back braces. While they are great products that can help you improve your posture, they are not going to fix your problem alone. Some people even argue that they are bad for you, but I think that is going too far.

To really improve your posture, you need to do various exercises to strengthen and stretch relevant muscles especially if you have had bad posture habits for a long time. Essentially, you need to reverse the effects that poor posture has had on your body.

You also need to assess the ergonomics of the places you spend most of the time at, and you need what I would call good posture habits. Even if the idea of “good” and “bad” posture is a misconception.
